A printing problem with the July Newsletter led to missing text in two stories. This newsletter supplement contains the full text from both stories.


CCA, FQMC and Health Canada publish pamphlet

Health Canada, along with the Canadian Celiac Association and the Fondation Quebecoise de la Maladie Coeliaque, has published a new pamphlet, titled "Celiac Disease - The Gluten Connection".

The pamphlet (available in English and French) is written for those diagnosed with celiac disease, as well as their friends and family and is intended to provide easy to understand information about celiac disease and the steps that can be taken to manage the disease.

Living With a Gluten-Free Diet Survey
The survey portion of the study is now closed. We would like to thank all members for their participation in this important research study. The survey response was astounding. The investigators are now in the analysis phase, so watch this site for news on progress over the next few months.

GLUTEN LABELLING

Allergen Alert Information - Health Canada has recently published information regarding Precautionary Statements on Allergens. There is reference to Gluten-Free Labelling in the Q & A's.

Precautionary “May Contain” Labelling
Health Canada is now actively reviewing its policy on the use of precautionary statements for food allergens such as “May contain…”.
This review has specifically noted the needs of individuals with celiac disease. Public consultations will take place, and CCA will be participating. Check the link for more information:
